Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's initial efforts at mainstream stardom were fruitless with two record labels signing and subsequently dropping her before she had any new material released. Capitol Records did release Perry's Ur So Gay, which received a little attention in 2007 due to its jolly title. I Kissed a Girl was a more bold ode to sexism that was that was accompanied by a slashing electro-pop style. I Kissed a Girl was an immediate hit, however it quickly sparked controversies. Critics argued that it was a promotion of sexual relations between men and women, however others believed that the scene the song depicted appealed more to male fantasies. I Kissed a Girl's combination of sensuality, polished music and a catchy tune helped the song become a top 10 hit across a range of countries. This led to The album, of the same name of the Boys (2007) being a big success. Hot N Cold's sharp and energetic second single also proved extremely popular. The album that Perry composed in large part sold more than three million copies.
